Badiou

"In The Century, Badiou provides a philosophical diagnostic of what the twentieth century was, breathtaking in its radicality. While all kinds of detractors, liberal and conservative, are trying to convince us that the twentieth century did not exist, that it was a monstruos aberration of totalitarian excesses, Badiou insists that something unique took place in the time-span from the October Revolution to the retreat of the Left in 1990 - an unheard of worldwide explosion of emancipatory politics which, in spite of its horrors*, should be fully assumed and prolonged. The lesson of the book is: remain faithful to the twentieth century. The Century is not 'the best' book of the last decade, it is simply the book of the last decade! Read it with the proper tremor, aware that you are reading a classic, that a figure like Plato or Hegel walks here among us!"

Comentário de Slavoj Zizek a "The Century" de Alan Badiou.

*Confesso alguma perplexidade perante o "in spite of its horrors", mas a última frase é realmente excitante.
